Mgmt IP (Management IP)

Definition:

The
mgmt IP
is the IP address assigned to a management interface on a network device,such as a router, switch, firewall, or server. This interface is specificallydesigned for remote administration and monitoring of the device.

Usage:
It allows administrators to connect to the device via SSH, Telnet, or web-basedinterfaces for configuration, updates, and troubleshooting.
Typically, the
mgmt IP
is part of a separate management VLAN or subnet to isolate management traffic from production traffic.

Example: An administrator might use the
mgmt IP
address
192.168.1.1
to log into a router's command line interface orweb interface for configuration purposes.

Egress IP

Definition:

The
egress IP
is the IP address that represents the source IP address of outgoing packets leaving a network or a device. It is often associated with Network Address Translation (NAT), where multiple internal IP addresses are mapped to asingle public IP address.

Usage:

When a packet leaves a network device or a NAT gateway, the original source IP address within the private network is replaced with the
egress IP
.

This is common in environments where multiple devices share a single public IPaddress for external communications.

Example:

If a company uses NAT to map all internal hosts to a single public IP address
203.0.113.1
, then all outgoing traffic from these hosts will show
203.0.113.1
as the source IP address.
