Switch PoE Exception
1357 0 2023-4-23 15:50:18
Original
Keywords
Power sourcing equipment (PSE) port fault, insufficient power, power device (PD) fault
Issue Description
Power supply to the devices (APs or IP phones) connected to the PoE switch is abnormal.
1. Device Model and Firmware
Ruijie and Reyee switches
2. Possible Causes
Check whether any of the following exists:
2.1   Insufficient power
2.2   PoE negotiation exception
2.3   PoE switch port fault or PD exception.
3.  Solutions
3.1 Insufficient Power
For Ruijie PoE switches, run the showpoe powersupply command to check whether the power supply mode is energy-saving. If not, change it to energy-saving. In this mode, the switch dynamically adjusts power allocation based on actual power consumption of PDs, maximizing power supply efficiency.
Note: Exercise caution when performing this operation because this operation will bring the ports up/down, and consequently power off and on PDs and possibly interrupt wireless network connection.)
You can also use this command to check whether the total power is sufficient. If the remaining power is insufficient, the total power is not enough for the APs, which is a performance issue. Use APs or switches with lower power consumption.

For Reyee ES series PoE switches, check whether the total power is sufficient on the PoE Settings page in eWeb

3.2 PoE Negotiation Exception
If the total power is normal, check whether the PoE compatible (non-standard) mode is enabled on the switch port. In this mode, the switch does not perform PoE negotiation with PDs. Instead, it directly supplies power to ports and thus to non-standard PoE devices. Non-standard PoE PDs are categorized as class 0 on the PoE switch and the default power range is 0 W to 12.95 W, which may be insufficient to power on the PDs.
You can run the poe legacy command to enable this mode for Ruijie PoE switches.
Ruijie(config)#poe legacy
If the compatible mode is required for some switches, run the following command:
Ruijie(config-if)#poe legacy
For Reyee PoE switches, you can enable the compatible (non-standard) mode on the Ports page.

Note: Enabling the compatible mode on ports with no PD connected may mistakenly power on the peer device and caused amage. Ensure that the compatible mode is enabled on a port that has been connected to a PD.
In addition, ensure that the power cable sequence of a PD is consistent with the PoE cable sequence of the PSE. If a relay device is connected between the PD and the PSE, ensure that the power cable sequence of the relay device is also consistent with those of the two peers. Further, ensure quality of the power cables and ensure that the power supply distance is less than 100 m.
3.3 PoE Switch Port Fault or PD Exception
Troubleshoot the fault according to following these steps:
Keep the PD and cable unchanged and change to another port. If the power supply is normal, the PoE port is faulty.
Keep the port and cable unchanged and use another PD. If the power supply is normal, the original PD is faulty.
Keep the PD and port unchanged and use another cable. If the power supply is normal, the cable is faulty.
4. Information Collection
Common commands for collecting information about PoE faults of Ruijie switches:

Show poe powersupply

Show poe interface Port number

Show poe interfaces status

Show poe interfaces configuration

If the power supply exception persists, collect information and contact Ruijie after-sales support at www.ruijienetworks.com/rita.
