How to do if the speed test of Ruijie AP is slow?

Original

Key Words:

AP, slow internet, slow wireless speed test.

Issue Description

Wireless speed test rates did not meet customer expectations.

Cause Analysis

1. Insufficient bandwidth provided by ISP.
2.Insufficient bandwidth on the AP's upstream wired port.
3. Low RSSl values.
4. Lower wireless negotiation rates.
5. Channel congestion.
6. AP power is too high or too low.
Solution
1. Preparation before test
For speed measurement, it is recommended that the terminal is adjacent to the AP and connected to the 5G SSlD, the number of users accessed at the same time is 1-2.
2. Insufficient bandwidth provided by lSPs
the lower the bandwidth provided by ISP, the lower the wireless speed test. It's recommanded to apply for a higher bandwidth to get a higher wireless rate before operating speed test.
lf thebandwidth provided by ISP is higher, PC directly connects to the same switch as the AP for wired speed test to see if the wired speed can get the right rate. If the rate to meet the demand, please perform the next step.
For example, customers wants that 100 users can access the network at the same time, but the bandwidth provided by the ISP is 100-200. The bandwidths of every users are not evenly distributed but seized, you need to apply for higher bandwidth from the ISP if some user user more bandwidth but the other users use less.
3. Insufficient bandwidth on the AP's uplink wired port
View the negotiated rate of the AP uplink wired port.

If the supported negotiated rate of 1000M, but current speed is lower than 1000M, please check
1. Check if the network cable supports 1000M;
2. Check whether the port of the uplink device connected to the AP supports 1000M;.
3. Replace the network cable for testing
4. Low RSSl values
When performing extreme speed tests, it is recommended that the RSSl value beabove -50 dBm;
When the user is in normal use, RSSl values above -60 dBm are recommended forspeed measurement..
View the RSSl value of the wireless user on the AP:
    Network > Devices > AP > Web CLl;

   Click> Assiciated Client

Note: In Ruijie AP, the RSSI displayed by above buttons means the received signal strength with the range of 0 to 100 ( the corresponding wireless user signal strength is equal to displayed RSSI minus 95. For example, the above figure RSSl 51, the corresponding wireless signal strength is 51-95 =-44dBm).

If the RSSl value is lower than -60, it is recommended to make the terminals closer to the AP or increase the power of the AP appropriately to allow the terminals to obtain a higher RSSl value.
5. Lower wireless negotiation rates
The rate of a wireless user is related to the negotiated rate. The higher the negotiated rate, the higher the rate the user is likely to get.  In the case of sufficient bandwidth provided by the lSP, the wireless user can get a rate of about half of the negotiated rate.
For example, if the user wants to measure the speed to reach 100M,  the bandwidth provided by the ISP should be higher than 100M, and the negotiated rate between the wireless user and the AP should be around 300M.
Check the negotiation rate of the wireless user and AP several times during the test to observe the change of the negotiation rate. The speed measurement result maybe higher when the negotiation rate fluctuates in a smaller range, and the speed measurement result may be lower if the negotiation rate fluctuates in a jumpy manner.

The negotiation rate is related to the RF Channel Width. When configured for a higher channel width, the wireless user and AP will have a higher negotiation rate. While a higher channel width will also bring about greater wireless interference compared to a lower channel width.
As shown above, at this point the user is connected to the 5G SSlD with a negotiatedrate of RATE DOWN 173.0M RATE UP 173.0M.
Checking the Current Channel Width Configuration.

Adjust the 5GHz Channel Width 40 and then take the speed test again to check the negotiated rate.

It can be seen that the negotiated rate is higher than when the 5GHz Channel Width is 20M.
If the AP supports WiFi6. you can turn on WiFi for testing.

After switching on Wi-Fi 6, take the speed test again and check the negotiated rate.
If the negotiated rate is still low after modifying to WiFi 6, try the following steps:
1. Check whether the tested terminal network card supports WiFi 6;
2. Attempt to move the location of the tested terminal and check the negotiated rate while the terminal is moving, and take a speed measurement at the location with the higher negotiated rate.
Note: lf the user can get enough negotiation rate even with a lower channel width, it is not recommended to adiust the channel width higher to avoid bringing morewireless interference.
6. Channel congestion
View the utilisation of the channels currently used by the APs.
ldle: 0 per cent-59 per cent.
Busy: 60-79 per cent.
Overload:80%-100%,
When the state of channel utilisation is in ldle, it means that the channel currently used by the AP is more idle and the wireless interference is smaller, when the state of channel utilisation is in Busy or Overload, it means that the channel currently used by the AP is more congested and the wireless interference is larger, so it is recommended to change the channel used by the AP.

You can also view the historical channel utilisation by clicking SN to enter the AP details page.

If the channel utilisation is high, try to change the channel and test again

7. AP power configuration not applicable to current environment.
When APs are deployed in close proximity to each other or when the utilisation of thechannel used by the APs is high, you can try to reduce the AP power to reducewireless interference;*
When the terminal is far away from the AP, you can try to increase the power of theAP,
