Fault Description

The following notification is displayed after a boot-based version upgrade fails on the RG-CS83-24GT4XS-P:

1. Device Model and Firmware

  Device Model

  Firmware Version

  Ruijie  switch

  RG-CS83-24GT4XS-P

2. Cause Analysis
1. From the operation logs, the upgrade mode is incorrectly selected. ‘2. Upgrade main program’ should be selected for a system upgrade. However, ‘1. Upgrade rboot program’ is selected instead.

2. After 2.Upgrade main program is selected, the upgrade still fails. Check if the version file is complete.
(1).Check the MD5 checksum after the version file is uploaded.

(2) Compare it with the value in the release notes.

The two values are inconsistent, indicating that version file may have been damagedduring the upload.
3. Solution
Download the version file again and perform the upgrade operation again. The upgrade issuccessful.
4. Appendix: Ctrl+C-based Upgrade for RG-CS83 Series Switches

Note:
1. The Ctrl+C-based should only be performed if an upgrade fails or the main program is lost.
2. If send download request is displayed at startup and the device fails to enter user mode, the device software version is likely lost. In this case, the device needs to be upgraded using Ctrl+C.
Ⅰ. Application Scenario
The main program of the device is lost. The main program can only be recovered using Ctrl+C.

Ⅱ. Topology

II. Configuration Notes

1. Use adedicated console cable to log in to the switch, with the baud rate set to 9600.
2.Connect the Ethernet cable to the MGMT port of the switch. (Note: When the switch is connected to the PC via an Ethernet cable, the port status LED on the switch will not light up, and you will not be able to test the connectivity between the PC and the switch. The port status LED will only light up when there is data transmission.)
If the switch has a MGMT port, connect the PC tothe MGMT port. If the switch does not have a MGMT port, connect the PC to the first port on the switch.

IV. Configuration Procedure

1.Connect the PC to the console port of the switch using a console cable.
2. Use a terminal software (SecureCRT) to log in to the switch.
(1) Set the IP address of the PC to 192.168.1.2, put the TFTP software and upgrade file into the same English directory, and open the TFTP software.
Note:
Disable the built-in firewall on the PC and uninstall any other antivirus software, such as 360 Total Security or Kaspersky, to avoid potential upgrade failures.
