Should I place SON AP Master to one empty SSID project?

Hello,

We plan to make one Reyee AP working as a SON Master. I wonder if I can put the SON Master AP to one new empty SSID project so the AP focuses on the WLC feature while it still keeps under the same Layer 2 with other SON member APs for roaming purposes.

Is it a good design and concept for Reyee AP?

This AP is not configured with an SSID and is only used for management, right?

It is not recommended because doing so will make the network more complex. Moreover, since this scenario is not very common, there may be some functional limitations. The number of members supported by AP to manage SON is limited by the specification. Normally, using a common management method, referring to our specifications, is feasible in most scenarios.

you can try to divide the AP into different device groups for the same project if you want to continue with this configuration. SSID is configured based on the group.

Regards,

Javier
