How to log into the CLI of Ruijie Switches using Console?

1.        Application Scenario & Requirement:

Access the CLI of a Ruijie switch using a console cable.


2.        Network Topology:



3.        Configuration Key Points:

a.        A specialized console cable should be prepared, usually RJ45 to RS-232. If the PC is not a desktop, a USB to RS-232 adaptor should be used. RJ45 to USB console cable is also available.

b.        Download SecureCRT or PuTTY.

c.        Flow control should be turned off on the interface of setting the baud rate.


4.        Configuration Steps:

a.        Different types of console cables:



Type 1. RJ45 to RS-232 and USB to RS-232 adaptor



Type 2. USB to RS-232 Console Cable


b.        Check the console port on the switch: a port on the switch panel labeled as Console.




c.        Open Computer Management by right-clicking This PC and clicking Manage; open Device Manager; expand the category Ports and look for the correct COM port number.





d.        Open Quick Connect on SecureCRT, and enter the COM connection information; select Serial for the protocol, select the correct COM port, set the baud rate to 9600, and uncheck RTS/CTS (turn off the flow control function):




e.        Click Connect, and the window will display the hostname of the switch, and the appeared line of 'Ruijie>' means the connection is successful
